Box is in.

The box is built. Will take more pictures later. XP is loaded, drivers loaded. I still need to work on XP booting off the SATA drive (it’s booting from the PATA’s MBR) and I want to get it in it’s ‘permanent’ state before doing anymore work on it.

Initial Impressions

  • The P180 is a sweet case. I’ll do a visual tour when I get home.
  • XP loaded quickly. Dunno if that’s CPU or harddisk or what. Just really a fast load to the drive.
  • While anything is copying, I cannot hear the PATA hard drives. I put my ear right up to it. Weird. I hope it stays that way.
  • The P180 does a hell of a job keeping sound inside the case. The 120mm fans sound way better than 80mm fans. Much quieter.
  • The 3d rocket cooler wasn’t too bad to get on there. You have to look at the instructions, put it on without the gel (dry mount) a few times for practice.

I can’t wait to actually do some gaming on it. Do some LAME encoding on it. Sound editing. Divx ripping. Compute pi to a trillion digits :P.
