Matt Damon!

godzilla

I was talking to wookie about something I couldn’t remember. What I mean is, I took hold of the conversation and then forgot the details. “Hey! Guess what!? I was reading about something … and it was … um, I forget the actor’s name… something to do with Matt Damon … nevermind” Well, I remembered what it was. Matt Damon is rumored to be playing the new Captain Kirk. The director said that Ben Affleck would logically (pun intended) play Spock. I know this is likely a bunch of horse-hockey. It’s just a rumor and I don’t care. I don’t care about Star Trek, that’s nerd shit … no seriously, the stereotypes pass over me on my assumed love of Star Wars and Star Trek. Make fun of The Matrix and Apple if you want to get me wound up.

Back on subject … Star Trek wouldn’t be the first time a series has been rebooted.

Rebooted? Ha! Like a server?

No. Seriously. Things get rebooted all the time. K. Mahoney from the t3 days (a huge comic book collector, I mean … he has a lot of comic books … ok, yeah he’s really tall too) told me all about rebooting and why comic books do it. Because many times they tell a story to the end and the story is too good for $revenue$ not to pass up a simple, “oh yeah … that never happened” reboot.

  • New Batman (Batman Begins)
  • New Superman, from what I hear, Superman 1 didn’t happen in parts, hard to say
  • New Star Trek (see above)
  • Doom3. Although you might argue this is a remake, IGN said pretend Doom1 never happened, which may just be game review advice.

Godzilla (1998) with Matthew Broddrick and all that never should have happened because Godzilla died in 1994 in Godzilla vs Destoroyah.

There’s also a nice piece on this subject at ytmnd.

Superman Returns is an in-line followup. Takes place 5 years after the last one. Don’t ask me any more because I don’t know. All I know is Margo Kidder can’t hold a flame to whoever the new Lois is.
