Power Supply affects Performance?!

Ok wtf. I thought a power supply just provides power. But alas, I am seeing major performance back in my system after buying an Antec Neo 500w. I can’t prove it with hard numbers but XP runs as responsive as a clean install now. I ran oblivion as a test too and it looks really great, stunning, fast, still somewhat choppy. WoW runs fast.
The Neo is a modular power supply, you can disconnect some cables if you don’t need the extra power. I wanted to avoid this but I can see the advantage now, it really saves space. In addition, the combat music for oblivion plays throughout the fight. I can’t explain all this “fix” because of a damn power supply. It makes no sense, unless I believe that the PS is the heart of the system which affects everything.
Anyway, my system came right up after putting the new power supply in. I’m glad nothing else shorted out. Phew! I went from 680w to 500w but I think the 500w is a more accurate rating. I don’t even see 680w on Enermax’s website. I don’t even need that much power. I guess I got fooled. I dunno.
I don’t know why the PS would fix stuff! Please post any answers, email addresses of wisemen or maps to an Oracle! Kthxmeow!

I think you’re suffering one of those “I cleaned my monitor and now it’s a highr resolution” moments.
But seriously – the right power supply i’m told makes a big difference, but mostly for high-end systems. Apparently this includes yours. The right comby of hertz, amps, volts, etc can (again I’m told) have a drastic impact on how the MoBo runs.
Now you should replace your printer – it will add +9 spool to all armor in WoW

Really?! *buys 18 printers* Yeah, I swear my box runs differently. Maybe not even 15% but I can see some things are running faster. Like XP shuts down fast, I turn up a little more eye-candy.
I could be wrong though. Clean monitor, good analogy, it could be a huge psych-out.
